Nike releases the Air Max 1 '86 *Big Bubble*! In 1986, it was a kind of prototype for the Air Max 1, which was launched in 1987 as the design debut of Tinker Hatfield. For Air Max Day 2023, the historic shoe celebrated a comeback in the OG colorway, now followed by more colorways! In 1986, the “Big Bubble” was part of the first production series of the Air Max 1, as was the slightly modified upper construction. However, the large Air Pad disappeared again before 1987 - it turned out that the “Big Bubble” tended to burst in the cold. For later Air Max 1s, the slightly smaller sole with a smaller Air bubble was designed. Now Nike is releasing the Air Max 1 '86 in a stylish new colorway! The open-pored mesh is topped with canvas overlays in a camouflage look. The Swoosh and the embroidery on the heel in Light Lemon Twist add an eye-catching color accent. The dark brown Air sole unit rounds off the look.

Midsole: Air

Technology: Max Air

Max Air was the first visible version of Nike's Air technology. Inspired by the modern inside-out architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Hatfield developed the Air Max and literally opened a window onto the sole of the shoe. And thus started a revolution in the world of footwear.

About Nike

"Just do it" : Hardly any other brand lives its brand slogan like the sporting goods manufacturer founded in Beaverton in 1971. In the 1960s, athletics coach Bill Bowerman set himself the task of developing the perfect running shoe for his students. Together with the student Phil Knight, this project gave rise to the company Nike, which celebrated its breakthrough at the 1972 Olympic Games. Among the greatest achievements in the company's history are the involvement of the exceptional basketball talent Michael Jordan and the introduction of visible Nike Air® cushioning on the Nike Air Max 1. In the 80s film classic "Back to the Future", the Nike Mag with its automatic lacing plays a central role. Nike's chief designer Tinker Hatfield has recently managed to turn this dream idea into reality. Using Nike E.A.R.L. technology, he has launched the first self-lacing shoe on the market, heralding the future of sneaker development.
