Following the huge success of the Nike Cortex, which had been released for the 1972 Olympic Games, the decision-makers at Nike decided to launch their first ever basketball shoe in the same year. Wondering what to call it, they thought of the local basketball team in Portland and named the sneaker after the Trailblazers. The Nike Blazer stood out with its all-leather construction, but it was the over-sized Swoosh that grabbed most attention. Thanks to it being a good game shoe, more and more NBA players opted for the Nike Blazer, however the person who really made it popular was George Gervin aka the Iceman. Over the years, labels such as Stüssy, Liberty London, Supreme NYC or also Comme de Garcons collaborated with Nike on the design of the silhouette, which further elevated the shoe’s status in the streetwear scene. The Nike Blazer is currently available in its original form and stands out with its timeless elegance and classic colorways.
