The Nike Wmns Air Rift is one of the most distinctive silhouettes from the Nike archive. Developed by model maker and ultrarunner Kip Buck, the design was inspired by the desire to replicate the feeling of barefoot running – influenced by Kenyan runners training in the Rift Valley. The split toe marks Nike's first foray into natural-motion footwear, while the name references Kenya's Great Rift Valley. This version comes in Light Khaki and Light Army – a muted, earthy palette that makes the shoe-sandal hybrid calm and everyday-friendly. A breathable mesh upper carries the silhouette, along with the distinctive split toe and adjustable straps at the midfoot and heel. The embroidered logo and Max-Air cushioning add details without being loud. The Rift thrives on the contrast between function and eccentricity – an iconic cult classic that will attract attention again this summer.

Max Air was the first visible version of Nike's Air technology. Inspired by the modern inside-out architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Hatfield developed the Air Max and literally opened a window onto the sole of the shoe. And thus started a revolution in the world of footwear.

About Nike

"Just do it" : Hardly any other brand lives its brand slogan like the sporting goods manufacturer founded in Beaverton in 1971. In the 1960s, athletics coach Bill Bowerman set himself the task of developing the perfect running shoe for his students. Together with the student Phil Knight, this project gave rise to the company Nike, which celebrated its breakthrough at the 1972 Olympic Games. Among the greatest achievements in the company's history are the involvement of the exceptional basketball talent Michael Jordan and the introduction of visible Nike Air® cushioning on the Nike Air Max 1. In the 80s film classic "Back to the Future", the Nike Mag with its automatic lacing plays a central role. Nike's chief designer Tinker Hatfield has recently managed to turn this dream idea into reality. Using Nike E.A.R.L. technology, he has launched the first self-lacing shoe on the market, heralding the future of sneaker development.
