The abbreviation stands for 'Super Light' – adidas launched the SL 72 in 1972 as a lightweight alternative to its other running shoes, designed for the casual runner during the running boom of the seventies. As the first shoe with the trefoil logo, the silhouette continues to make archive history, living on in a slim retro cut.
