Just one year after the release of the legendary GEL-LYTE III, another iconic ASICS silhouette saw the light of day: the ASICS GEL Saga. The GEL Saga was first released in 1991, back then exclusively in Japan and the US. Like most other sneakers from ASICS, the Saga was initially intended to be a pure performance silhouette. Due to its high level of comfort, it quickly found numerous fans in the running community of the early 90s until it eventually became quiet around the silhouette. Then in 2011, ASICS brought the GEL-Saga back to the streets as part of their popular retro lifestyle line. The design of the GEL Saga has been thoroughly reworked in recent years without losing the original charm of the running classic. The sole of the shoe is made of the ASICS typical GEL material and offers a high wearing comfort. Even today, the GEL technology from the early 90s is used in almost all running shoes of the brand. Proof that this technology was years ahead of its time back then. The upper of the GEL Saga consists of several layers. Panelling allows for a lot of experimentation with colours and materials, so designers can give free rein to their creativity. Various brands have also taken advantage of this for collaborations on the GEL Saga. The collaborations between ASICS and footwear design legend Ronnie Fieg are considered particularly trend-setting. The sides of the GEL Saga are adorned with the characteristic tiger stripes and give it the typical ASICS look. In the sneaker & streetwear scene, the GEL Saga is certainly one of the brand's most popular models - and not without reason.
