Whether for his own label or for the Spanish luxury brand Loewe, where he has been creative director for more than ten years: Anderson's designs are of their time
in advance. Whether ruffled shorts or lace shirts – his creations for men play with gender identity and clichés. Similarly, JW Anderson's first women's collection was characterized by striking box shapes. A reflective orb dress - more futuristic sculpture than Garment – was part of his show at last London Fashion Week. And for the Loewe brand, Anderson has already created shoes and coats with grass growing out of them.
The Challenge is on: With his unusual perspective and creative output, the designer challenges the fashion world. Above all, he confronts the traditional mindset of many fashion editors, who don't always love Anderson's daring ideas. This does not affect the reputation of his label - on the contrary: JW Anderson is considered groundbreaking. The designer does not see himself as a single genius: for him, his designs are clearly collaborative works. “I am just the big salesman,” he says about his work.
