With Italian blood and British attitude: The story of Aries
Do you know the feeling of not really knowing where you belong? That's exactly what happened to Sofia Prantera, the mastermind behind Aries. Growing up in Rome, she changed her base to England to study fashion design at the trendy Central Saint Martins University - and thus acquired a second home. Prantera used this half-half feeling, being in between places, as the basis of her creativity: While university tutors told her that streetwear was not fashion, Prantera focused on exactly that and founded the two fashion labels Holmes and Silas.
When the Italian finally met graphic designer Fergus Purcell, they both continued this artistic mindset - and Aries was born. Launched in 2012, the brand represents a mix of minimalism and maximalism, skate culture and punk, conformity and rebellion. There are also influences from rave culture and the styles of the 80s and 90s, with which both designers grew up. Aries follows in the tradition of global brands like Vivienne Westwood, who combine art and fashion in a unique way.
