After moving, Brooklyn-born Michael Jordan grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. At an early age, his father, who himself had been a good basketball player in his youth, recognized Michael's talent and trained with him. During this time he made considerable progress, so that in 1981 he made it onto the coveted college team at the University of North Carolina, or UNC for short. Young Michael Jordan did not realize at the time that this was to be the beginning of a unique career. Paying homage to Michael Jordan's time with the UNC Tar Heels, the Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "UNC" Sail / Obsidian - University Blue tells the story of his young career.

Under legendary coach Dean Smith, Jordan developed into the team's key performer. With his decisive basket in the NCAA championship game against Georgetown, he aroused the great interest of the media for the first time in 1982.

His time with the UNC Tar Heels was particularly formative for MJ, who was still young at the time. He developed at a furious pace and gained his first experience as a captain and key player. It was also a springboard for his later NBA career and the move into his later regular team, the legendary Chicago Bulls.

The upper of the new Jordan 1 "UNC" is made entirely of high-quality leather. The basic colorway in classy cream white is complemented by dark blue overlays and a heel cap in classic University of North Carolina light blue.
